Susan Rahman, a 7th grader from Miss Gallo’s class at Oak Valley Middle School, won 1st place in USD’s Character Matters Essay Contest! Susan competed against students from all over San Diego and Imperial Counties. She wrote a beautiful essay on how Mahatma Ghandi lived his life and how his quote, “Be the change you want to see in the world,” inspired her to help in her community and be a person of great character. Susan was awarded with a plaque and a check for $100.

The Character Matters Essay Contest is sponsored by the University of San Diego’s Character Development Center. This contest provides a platform for insightful discussions and reflections on experiences that call for honesty, respect, responsibility, courage, self-discipline, and many other virtues.
