Wadhwa Family Truly at Home in 4S Ranch
Ashish Wadhwa lived in eight different states before moving to San Diego County from Huntington Beach. His wife, Nehal, resided in seven.
But in their 4S Ranch neighborhood, they finally found home.
“We wanted a community that was kid friendly,” said Nehal, mother of Jayna, age six, and Alisha, age five. “We knew we wanted parks, great schools, amenities and great neighbors. 4S Ranch was one of the only communities in the area at the time that offered that mix.”
Ashish is a medical doctor and surgeon -a board certified Otolaryngologist (a specialist in the medical and surgical treatment of pediatric and adult head and neck disorders) – and opened Rancho Ear, Nose and Throat in Poway in 2004. After graduating from Penn State University, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Thomas Jefferson University Medical School.
He and Nehal moved the family to the area from Huntington Beach after he completed residency at the University of California in Irvine.
Nehal, who has a degree in Accounting and Finance from The University of Texas in Austin, began her career at Enron (as an analyst – and not in the accounting department, she notes) and is a former operations manager for McMaster-Car Supply Co. and a licensed real estate broker. Now she is primarily at home with the children (though she assists in Ashish’s practice a few days a week).
Both Ashish and Nehal had fathers in nuclear engineering. They originally met in high school in Tennessee, though they went separate ways to college. After Nehal graduated, they reunited and married 11 years ago.
Living in 4S Ranch, they appear to be flourishing as a family. Jayna and Alisha play piano and soccer; take swimming and gymnastic lessons; and enjoy arts and crafts, books, cooking and sports.
Ashish enjoys music and amateur photography, while Nehal draws, paints, reads and volunteers at her children’s school. Both parents enjoy participating in the San Diego Floor Hockey League.
And they certainly love the San Diego and 4S Ranch lifestyle.
“This is the longest either of us has lived in one place…ever!” Nehal said. “San Diego is definitely one of the nicest places we have ever lived and we love it. (We have) no plans of leaving San Diego.”
