Residents of 92127’s Bernardo Point community are upset about the Poway Unified School District’s decision to change school attendance boundaries for their children – and dozens turned out recently at a board meeting to protest.

The PUSD board’s decision in June redraws the boundaries and sends students from Bernardo Point – which is located west of I-15 and north of Rancho Bernardo Road – to Turtleback Elementary School, Bernardo Heights Middle School, and Rancho Bernardo High School instead of Monterey Ridge Elementary, Oak Valley Middle and Del Norte High School.

It appears that students will not have to adhere to the new boundaries immediately, but parents are concerned nonetheless.

According to PUSD officials, the 4S Ranch schools the Bernardo Point students attend — Monterey Ridge Elementary School, Oak Ridge Middle School, and Del Norte High School – are filling up to the point that the 4S residents paying special fees for the construction of the schools can’t get a seat in their home campus.

Students in Bernardo Point are particularly close to 4S Ranch schools, especially Monterey Ridge Elementary.
