4S Ranch Team Wins State Championship

arsenal_logoArsenal FC San Diego, a club soccer team located in 4S Ranch, recently won its first State Championship. Competing in the President’s Division of the annual State Cup tournament, the Girls Under 10 Elite team competed against the top 43 teams in southern California.

The team, coached by Jose Ocampo, first came to the North County community of 4S Ranch in 2013. The team includes players from 4S Ranch, Carlsbad, Escondido, and Scripps Ranch.

The annual tournament began with group play at the Southern California Sports Complex in Oceanside during the weekend of Feb. 7 and 8. The top teams advanced to the next round of play during the weekend of Feb. 14 and 15 in San Juan Capistrano. The semi-finals were held the next week with the winners advancing to meet in the final game in San Bernardino to determine the state champion. Arsenal FC GU10 Elite played Strikers FC from Orange County and emerged victorious to win the club’s first ever state championship.

“I knew this team was special and headed towards a championship early in the season,” said Ocampo. “The girls are a talented bunch, and they have worked hard this season to get to this place.”

The final game was tense and competitive. At the end of regulation, the score was tied 1-1, and a 10-minute overtime failed to determine a winner. Per Cal South rules, the game went into penalty kicks with Arsenal FC San Diego scoring four PKs to Strikers’ three.

The players who earned this title include Allie Anderson, Nicole Anderson, Esha Gupta, Payton Jenkins, Molly McCarthy, Maquena O’Callaghan, Eva Schreiber, Catherine Schreiber, Emily Separovich, and Maggie Taitano. Congratulations!
