Cohen Family Tree

Life in the Heritage neighborhood of 4S Ranch was just what Nicole and Scott Cohen were seeking 10 years ago. The family-friendly neighborhood and excellent school system prompted the short move from Carmel Valley for the Cohens, who knew they would be starting a family shortly.

Today their daughters Ashleigh and Lauren are very active in the community. Students at Stone Ranch Elementary School, they spend their extracurricular time involved in dance, swimming, gymnastics, art, and Girl Scouts. Nicole can often be found volunteering at their school and co-leading the Girl Scout troop.

Prior to motherhood, Nicole worked in interior design, specializing in stone and tile. Scott’s career began at the age of 16 when he began working in the nursery and landscape industry. He now owns South Coast Wholesale, providing mature trees and palms across the sunbelt of the U.S. and even the Caribbean. “He has provided palms and trees to many projects including the Wynn Encore, Newport Beach Marriot, Universal Studios, and many private estates,” shared Nicole. For the past several years, the Cohen family, with the help of Scott’s business, has participated in the Arbor Day Celebration at Balboa Park. “We have provided over 1,000 small oak trees for children to plant in and around San Diego,” Scott said.

Family life and the tree farm intersect more than once a year on Arbor Day. Nicole explained, “Ashleigh was named after the ashes of the 2007 wildfires. She was born three weeks after the fires that destroyed a large portion of our business.” The Cohens rebuilt with an even greater purpose in mind. “We carved out an area for children to have their own park and playground,” Scott said. Now the area is sometimes host to parties, barbecues, and family events.

As 4S Ranch residents, the Cohen family enjoys the parks, the beach, and access to many activities. They appreciate all the opportunities of life in 92127 – the ability to own a local business, support the community, and be a part of a neighborhood with so much to offer.
