Oak Valley Middle School students proved their anti-hacking skills at a recent competition. OVMS’s Team CyberFalcon Millennium 360 was crowned National Champion of the middle school division at the CyberPatriot VIII National Finals Competition in Baltimore, MD. The winning OVMS students were Andrew Wang, Eric Chen, Lucy Gao, Pranav Patil, and Arushi Dogra. They’ve been working with Coach Paul Johnson at Northrup Grumman for a year, learning how to defend a network from cyber-attack.

CyberPatriot was founded by the Air Force Association to inspire students’ interest in cybersecurity, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The National Youth Cyber Defense Competition puts high school and middle school teams in the position of IT professionals at a small company. In each round of the competition, they have to identify vulnerabilities in the company’s network and strengthen the system. State and regional winners earn all-expenses paid trips to Baltimore for the finals.
