The Close-Knit Moore Family Stays Connected On and Off the Field
The Moore the Merrier
After Grant and Kari Moore met at a hockey game in 1995, it should be no surprise that they’re raising an active, athletic family here in 92127. Along with their three boys – Jake, 17, Alex, 15, and Zach, 14 – they moved to Del Sur from Lake Oswego, OR over five years ago, and the close-knit community quickly became home. “It’s such a great family community – there are so many parks and activities,” noted Jake. “It has been easy to make good family friends.” His brother Alex added, “We love the beach, hikes, all things football, and attending Oregon Duck athletic events.” Cheering on the Ducks is a family tradition both in the stands and out – Alex’s accumulated nearly 50,000 followers on his @OregonEmpire Instagram account. Alex and Zach finished elementary school at Del Sur Elementary, and all three boys attended Oak Valley Middle School. “We are now proud Nighthawks at Del Norte High School,” said Alex. They’re involved in a wide variety of sports – football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball. During Jake’s first season of Pop Warner in San Diego, they beat Nevada to win the Best of the West Division. Zach was a four-time 4S Ranch Little League All-Star. “Now, we’re the first set of three brothers to all play both football and basketball at DNHS at the same time,” Jake shared. “Our parents watched a combined total of 18 basketball games over a weekend last summer at UCSD, when we competed at freshman, JV, and varsity levels.”
The three volunteer with the San Diego Food Bank and 4S Ranch Little League. Alex and Jake are also counselors for DNHS Youth Basketball and are involved with Best Buddies. Jake adds Link Crew to his community service roster as well.
It’s a busy life, but the Moores still take the time to slow down and appreciate their time together. “We eat dinner together as a family virtually every weeknight at our dinner table,” explained Zach. “And it hasn’t happened yet, but if any one of us boys doesn’t acknowledge Mom with a kiss before a game, she will come down onto the field and kiss us.”
They see staying involved as the key to connecting with each other and the whole 92127 community. As Jake put it, “Get involved with multiple activities, make great friends, meet people both in and out of your school and community, represent the Nighthawks and your family, and lastly, have fun!”
