A Family Affair

Ron Fornaca is proud to continue a family tradition of hard work and dedication. It all started when Ron’s grandfather, Mario Fornaca, immigrated from Italy in the early 1900s, bought a French bread bakery, and renamed it the Fornaca Family Bakery. Prevailing through the Great Depression and WWII, Ron’s father and uncle then bought the bakery in the 1950s and renamed it Town Talk Baking Co. Although the bakery closed in 1994, the Fornaca family saga doesn’t end there.

As Ron recalled, “My dad, Frank, went into a Lincoln Mercury dealership in National City to buy my mom a Lincoln, and he was not treated very well. He found out the store was for sale and thought it would be a good business opportunity because he believed he could treat people better than the other car dealers at the time.”

Renamed the Frank Motors Group, the car dealership now includes Frank Toyota, Frank Hyundai, Frank Subaru, Frank Scion, Frank Used Car Center, and Frank Auto Service. According to Ron, the growth and success of the business all stems from that one fortuitous day in 1965 when his dad tried to buy a Lincoln. Ron explained, “Our foundation, ever since that day, has been customer service.”

Ron said, “I like spending time with my family. Even though we work together every day, we still have family dinner at my dad’s house in Del Cerro every Sunday night.”

When not working, Ron loves living in the Westwood area of Rancho Bernardo with his wife, Cathy. He’s been happily ensconced in the 92127 neighborhood since 1992, and originally moved to North Country in order to work at the family bakery in Escondido (it has since been sold). Ron is immensely proud to be a Fornaca, saying, “The Fornaca family has been in San Diego for over 105 years, and at Frank Motors Group it’s truly a family affair.”
