County Teacher of the Year
Del Norte High School computer science teacher Mark Lantsberger was honored as one of five 2017-2018 San Diego County Teachers of the Year. He and the other four were announced during the recent Salute to Teachers awards show, which airs live on television every year. His fellow teachers of the year are Kathy Worley from West Hills High School, Ben Swearingen from Imperial Beach Charter School, Jaime Brown from San Diego High School of International Studies, and Camden Flores from Kempton Street Literacy Academy. Together, they represented San Diego County’s 22,000 teachers in the statewide California Teacher of the Year program.
Mark has been teaching for 20 years, and developed his computer science curriculum from scratch. He advises two computer science clubs, including Girls in Computing, which aims to encourage more young women to study computer science. His students have gone on to work at Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and as CEOs of their own software companies.
