Enriching Minds and Bodies
EDU Learning Center Gives Students the Opportunity to Grow in Academics and Physical Education
For Daniel Kim, the owner of EDU Learning Center, the motivation to establish a comprehensive after-school program came from a desire to support working parents and offer a place where the needs of both children and parents are met in the areas of academics and physical education. “I was also motivated to improve the after school environment by centering our programs on our mind, body, and character concept. Our programs strive to teach academic excellence, enhance emotional and physical well-being, and build character within a safe and caring environment,” explained Kim. EDU Learning Center offers after-school care for students in grades K through 12 that includes homework assistance, academic tutoring, SAT preparation, as well as classes in foreign languages (Korean, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish), music, dance (ballet, ballroom, and hip-hop), rhythmic gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do, chess, and visual arts. Transportation is provided from students’ schools to the EDU Learning Center facility in Rancho Bernardo. Classes are offered year-round and special camps, seminars, and sessions are held during non-student days and holidays. EDU Learning Center also has an exciting Summer Camp, providing full day and short day options for children of all ages.
Kim, who studied mechanical engineering at San Diego State University and is a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, credits both his academic experiences and those in martial arts for his dedication to helping children and their parents. “The passion, guidance, and leadership I acquired from martial arts allowed me to excel in teaching and granted me the opportunity to work with children in the after-school environment,” stated Kim. In addition to directing all programs at EDU Learning Center, Kim is the main training instructor for the Tae Kwon Do program. Kim is proud that all instructors and staff at EDU Learning Center share his passion for working with children and are highly qualified in their areas of instruction.
“Our programs strive to teach academic excellence, enhance emotional and physical well-being and build character within a safe and caring environment.”
From the time he was young, Kim realized the sacrifices that parents make to provide after-school enrichment activities for their children. He especially noted how difficult it can be for working parents to drive their students from school to various activities throughout San Diego County. “EDU Learning Center is a place for students to discover their true talents and explore their interests through enrichment activities that are offered in one convenient location. This unity between our programs and activities also allows close bonds to be established among staff, students, and families,” said Kim.
EDU Learning Center will be having a Summer Camp from June 18 to Aug. 17, where students will have opportunities to visit local attractions around San Diego County, participate in outdoor/indoor sport activities, maintain or advance their academic skills, and explore new enrichment courses that are not offered during the school year such as cooking, wood shop, C.A.D & C.A.M (Computer Aid Design/Manufacturing), and STEAM based workshops.
The camp offers great flexibility with students’ summer schedules as the programs are offered the entire camp session with new topics and projects introduced weekly. The programs aim to keep students active, stay prepared or ahead in academics, and explore new interests all while having fun and making friends!
