92127’s Monterey Ridge Elementary School and Willow Grove Elementary School, along with Park Village Elementary School in 92129, were recently honored by the California Department of Education’s Distinguished Schools Program. This program replaces the California Gold Ribbon Schools Program after a three-year hiatus, and 287 schools were recognized statewide this year. Schools were assessed for excellence in teaching, learning, collaborating, and gains in academics and performance standards.

“I am extremely proud of the success of our schools in implementing their best and innovative practices for the benefit of our students,” said Poway Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps. “From STEM and literacy to the arts and Character Counts, it really is a team effort by staff, students, and our community to create the foundation for college and career readiness.”

Monterey Ridge Principal Sal Embry, Willow Grove Principal Amy Huff, and Park Village Principal Mike Mosgrove will be honored at an awards ceremony in Anaheim in May.
