Three students from 92127 were recently crowned at the 56th Miss Poway Scholarship Pageant, sponsored by the Poway Kiwanis Club. Isabel Friedl, a Del Norte High School (DNHS) sophomore, and Shelby Westbrook, a DNHS junior, join the court as Miss Poway Scholarship Pageant Teen Princesses. Oak Valley middle schooler Devyn Jones is Miss Junior Teen Poway.

The process was an engaging, challenging experience for the contestants. “The most rewarding part of the pageant process would have to be all of the life skills I learned during rehearsals!” Shelby explained. “Throughout the eight or so weeks that we rehearsed for the pageant, I learned self-defense, interview skills, public speaking skills, and how to be poised and confident.”

All three look forward to representing their communities at fundraisers, parades, and other community events over the upcoming year. “I am most looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends throughout the year,” shared Devyn. “I’m also looking forward to becoming closer with the rest of the girls on the court.” Isabel agreed, elaborating, “Each young woman on the court dedicates hundreds of hours of community service over the course of her year of service, and I’m proud to be a part of this important work.”
