Hardworking & Humble
The language of finance and technology is a familiar one for Student Star Varun Agarwal. A junior at Del Norte High School, Varun has immersed himself in opportunities at school and in the community to jump-start his future career.
Varun is building a solid foundation through his school involvement. He started the Finance and Investment Club at Del Norte High School, which has seen great success at the regional level in the SIMFA Stock Market Game. “Last year, we placed third regionally out of over 300 teams,” he said. Varun also started the Toastmaster’s Gavel Club, a noncompetitive public speaking club.
This past year, Varun entered the SIMFA InvestWrite competition and placed second in the national competition and first in California. The essay-writing competition is focused on business and investing. “This year’s prompt was to choose a dream company to work for, advise its investment manager with an investing strategy, and predict any major global or economic events that could affect the company,” he explained.
Varun has been applying his investment knowledge since middle school. He manages his own investment portfolio in an online trading simulator. “I really wish it wasn’t a simulation; I could have bought a Ferrari with my investments,” Varun said.
