4S Ranch resident Crystal Wang, a senior at The Bishop’s School, was among the 16,000 students named as 2019 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. More than 1.6 million juniors in over 22,000 high schools across the United States entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of the 50,000 highest scorers, approximately 16,000 were named semifinalists. Roughly 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist level in February, competing for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships totaling $32 million that will be offered in the spring. Scholarship winners are chosen based on their academic abilities, skills, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in college and beyond.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by the nonprofit National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). For more information about the program go to www.nationalmerit.org.
