Summer Memories

The Maranatha Christian Schools Summer Program Allows Children to Learn, Grow, and Have Fun

by JENNIFER FRAKES | photos by Forever Photography by Liberty and provided by Maranatha Christian Schools

The Maranatha Christian Schools Summer Program focuses on the whole child – from the academic, athletic, and artistic aspects to teaching students how they can make an impact in their community and world. “Our Christ-centered culture encourages a high level of dignity and respect, based on a solid foundation of integrity. Our desire is to see children achieving their highest potential with the gifts and talents God has given them,” said Julie Elliott, summer camp director. According to Elliott, class sizes are small and focused, offering the students dedicated time with teachers, staff, and other students. New friends are made and summer memories are created in a loving, safe, clean, and nurturing environment. In addition, all teachers are credentialed and have experience in education and leading special summer programs.

As you explore the Maranatha Christian Schools (MCS) summer offerings, you will find many different options. Morning and afternoon classes are available in math, English, dance, cooking, STEAM, and indoor and outdoor sports. In addition, there are also two classes specifically focused on helping students transition into Kindergarten and first grade. TK-8th grade summer camps and enrichment classes start June 24 and run through Aug. 2. There is a three-week commitment for all classes, with two separate sessions (June 24-July 12 and July 15-Aug. 2). Because of families’ busy schedules, MCS now has extended care available for an additional fee.

maranatha3Looking for a preschool program this summer? MCS also offers a preschool summer camp program Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This weekly program has four sessions starting on June 3 and the fourth beginning on June 24. The curriculum incorporates math, literacy, and science exploration into fun and creative activities.

In addition to the summer camps offerings, there are also two separate programs that are specifically focused on athletics and performing arts. In the athletic clinics led by trained coaches, the first will focus on basketball from June 17 to June 21, a second option is a mini cheer clinic for elementary and junior high students. The three-day performing arts workshop, led by a seasoned veteran, is for junior high and high school students interested in better preparing themselves for auditions.

maranatha2

Maranatha Christian Schools invites families to step onto their campus and experience the difference. With extensive offerings in academics, arts, and athletics for preschool through 12th grade, they strive for excellence in all things. The admissions staff is readily available to give tours and is currently accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year.

Outpost Summer Camps

outpost_logoNow more than ever, children need to be away from their devices for extended periods of time, and there is nothing better than a summer day camp experience to make this a reality. Outpost Summer Camps was founded in 2001 and serves over 1,500 children every summer, completely outdoors and screen-free.

The Outpost experience has three pillars that parents have loved for over 15 summers: “old-fashioned” camp activities (think MUD!), door-to-door transportation for most families, and exceptional, well-trained staff that ensure a quality experience for each child. Outpost is open to children ages 3 to 14, and according to Owner/Director Stuart Jones, “Each of our camps has exciting, age-appropriate activities for the different age groups, but all share in the philosophy of creative, spontaneous fun facilitated by the counselors and campers.” The three-week sessions are what make Outpost so unique. Stuart explained, “By staying longer at camp, children of all temperaments have enough time to learn names, get completely comfortable with routines, and make and keep new friends.”

outpost2

Another way the camps stand out is with their commitment to safety. Outpost Summer Camps has been continuously accredited by the American Camp Association since inception and operates under permit from the County of San Diego as an Organized Camp. Stuart and his wife Kelly, a clinical psychologist, bring years of child development experience to Outpost. Additionally, the duo hires, trains, and retains their director team from their best counselors, who have invested 8 to 10 years at the camps and are specialized in their programs.
