Regional Robotics Champions

Local students from 4S Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, and Scripps Ranch recently won the FIRST Lego League regional competition, held at Legoland in December. Team Brain Busters competed against over 250 other teams of elementary and middle schoolers to win the title. Team members put their programming and collaboration skills to the test solving real-world problems related to this year’s theme of “Into Orbit.” Team Brain Busters’ project was designing a way to clean space suits while in space – research included talking to an astronaut, a chemist, and a space suit expert at Boeing. They were graded on project presentation, robot design, robot performance, and core values to take home the winning title.

In addition to being an impressive achievement on its own, the regional event qualified Team Brain Busters to attend the World Championship Competition. The championship will be held in Houston, TX this April, and Team Brain Busters is one of only two Southern California teams to qualify.

Team Brain Busters is currently fundraising to help take the team to the championships in Houston. For more information visit the team website at www.brain-busters.com.
