Second Chance Beer Company, an independent brewery founded in Carmel Mountain Ranch, was recently named the 77th Assembly District 2019 Small Business of the Year. The business stands out for its commitment to environmental sustainability. Through its charity program, Giving Second Chances, the company donates one percent of all annual sales to organizations that serve people, animals, and the planet. More than 70% of the company’s furnishings are upcycled, recycled, and repurposed as well.

“Second Chance Beer Company has served as a worthy example for many businesses to follow,” said Assemblymember Brian Maienschein. “Despite being a relatively new brewery, the company has contributed tremendously to both the economic strength and environmental sustainability of our community.”

The brewery was founded by Marty Mendiola, Curtis Hawes, and Virginia Morrison. In addition to the original Carmel Mountain Ranch brewery and taproom, they now have a tasting room in North Park.
