Nighthawks Leave the Nest
Graduation season has dawned upon us in the Nighthawk family. On June 13, we witnessed hundreds of Nighthawks finally leaving the nest, ready to take on the rest of the world. Del Norte’s mission statement is, “Inspiring passion and preparing all students to be college ready, future focused, and globally aware,” and families and friends saw that phrase in full action on graduation day.
Throughout the ceremony, wise words were shared with excited students. Principal Bryan Schultz took the stage to express his excitement and hope for the graduating Class of 2019. Student speaker Gil Pasternak delivered a moving and passionate speech about the unity of Nighthawks in all circumstances and how that quality will translate into the real world. And, to many Nighthawks’ surprise, Mr. Greg Mizel, former principal of Del Norte High, showed up at graduation to express his pride and gratitude for the Nighthawks’ accomplishments and for consistently adhering to the policy of Home Court Advantage. Students were excited to see Mr. Mizel again, along with his exciting and contagious energy. As the Nighthawks received their diplomas, thousands of family and friends stood in the stadium, cheering their loved ones on. It was an emotional and powerful moment in the lives of all present at the graduation.
The Class of 2019 has finally reached the day it has been waiting and preparing for. While the students threw their graduation caps into the air, we know their futures are grounded in success. They are prepared to take on the rest of the world, and we hope they will carry the life lessons learned at Del Norte into the rest of their lives.
